Rankin shoots Rembrandt - The Culture Show on TV |

Rankin use his camera lens to interpret Rembrandt’s portraits of old age.

If you didn't catch the Culture Show on 16th Oct then watch it on the BBC iPlayer

The programme whilst not providing any insight into the camera and lighting techniques does discuss the importance of light in portrait photography and the intention of Rembrandts portraits. Personally I find Rankin a little annoying, and it was the inspiring Ken Loach and Una Stubbs that really gave the greatest insights into the power of the portrait. The ability to remove the mask and show the truth about the subject.

It's a good watch (30mins) as Rankin reproduces some of Rembrandts enigmatic portraits using digital photography to recreate the mood, light and textures of these masterpieces.
